Overview: Nalam is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2014. They support over 170 girls in South India by providing them with food, security, shelter, healthcare, education, and skill training. Nalam focuses on helping orphans, vulnerable girls, and those who are in severe need. They aim to break the cycle of poverty and abuse through empowerment and education.

Nalam is a 100% volunteer-run and has been active for 10 years. They have a high donation efficiency, with $950 of every $1,000 reaching India. They also have efficient operations, with a cost of $1.20 per day for all needs at the orphanage and ~$4.20 per day for education and training.

On a whim, I signed up for Girls in Tech-San Francisco, Hacking for Humanity’s Hackathon. This was my first ever hackathon, and the idea of designing a product from 0 to 100 within 24 hours was definitely a daunting task.
